Creating bundles

Pricing and discounts

A bundle's price is the total of the products the customer ends up with. You control what each product costs inside the bundle, with three tools you can combine: price syncing, a bundle-wide discount, and custom prices.

How the bundle price is worked out

For each product in the customer's bundle, BundleM8 multiplies the product's bundle price by its quantity, then adds them all up:

Bundle price = sum of (product price × quantity) for every fixed product and every optional product the customer chose

For example, a bundle with three fixed coffees at $24.00 each, and a 15% bundle-wide discount:

ProductShopify priceBundle price
M8 Blend, Ground$24.00$20.40
Seasonal, Ground$24.00$20.40
Decaf, Ground$24.00$20.40
Total$72.00$61.20

The bundle form shows the total as the customer makes their selection. In the cart and checkout, each product is charged at its bundle price.

Price on your product page

Your theme shows the bundle product's price from its variants:

  • If every combination costs the same, the product has one price.
  • If the price depends on the customer's choices, the product shows the cheapest and most expensive possible bundles. Most themes show this as "From $lowest" or a price range.

BundleM8 updates these prices whenever you save the bundle or a product's price changes. Don't edit the bundle product's variant prices in Shopify: BundleM8 sets them back to match the bundle.

If you hide your theme's price block on the bundles template (see Theme setup), customers only see the bundle form's total.

Auto sync prices

With Auto sync prices on, each product's bundle price follows its Shopify price. When you change a product's price in Shopify, BundleM8 updates it in the bundle.

Products with a custom price keep their custom price and aren't synced.

Turn auto sync off if you want bundle prices to stay fixed even when your regular prices change, for example during a sale on individual products.

Bundle-wide discounts

A bundle-wide discount takes the same discount off every product in the bundle. Turn on Bundle-wide discount in the bundle's settings, then choose a type and amount.

Discount typeHow it's appliedExample: $24.00 product
PercentageA percentage off each product, rounded to the nearest cent20% → $19.20
Fixed amountAn amount off each product$3.00 → $21.00

Because the discount applies per product, the saving grows with the size of the bundle. A fixed $3.00 discount on a bundle of three products saves the customer $9.00.

When a bundle-wide discount is on:

  • Auto sync prices is always on, so the discount is always taken from current Shopify prices.
  • You can't set custom prices. The price field for each product is locked.

Fixed amounts and low-priced products

A product's price never goes below $0.00. If a fixed-amount discount is larger than a product's price, that product becomes free. Choose an amount smaller than your cheapest product in the bundle, or use a percentage.

Custom prices

Without a bundle-wide discount, you can set any product's bundle price in the Edit bundle product window. See Bundle products.

Custom prices are useful when:

  • Different products need different discounts.
  • A product should be free, such as the free item in a "buy two, get one free" bundle. Set its price to 0.
  • You want a bundle price that doesn't change when your regular prices do.

A product with a custom price isn't changed by Auto sync prices. To go back to syncing, set its price to match its Shopify price again.

Discount codes and other discounts

Bundle prices are set when the bundle is assembled in the cart, before Shopify applies discounts. Discount codes and automatic discounts can still apply to bundles on top of the bundle price, depending on how they're set up. If you don't want customers to combine a bundle saving with other offers, check your discounts' product eligibility and test a bundle at checkout.

Currencies

Bundle prices are set in your store's currency. When customers shop in another currency through Shopify Markets, the bundle form converts prices using the same exchange rate Shopify uses for the bundle product, so the total matches what customers pay at checkout.
