Creating bundles
Product groups
Product groups organise the products in your bundle. Each group appears as its own section of the bundle form, with a title, its products, and rules for how many the customer can choose.
Creating a group
Select + Add product group in the bundle editor. This adds an empty group called "New group" to the end of the bundle. Open the group's menu and select Settings to set it up. See Group settings.
Adding products
Open the group's Add products menu and choose what kind of product to add:
- Add fixed products: products that are always included in the bundle. Customers see them listed but can't remove them.
- Add optional products: products the customer can choose from.
Shopify's product picker opens. Select one or more products or variants and confirm. Bundle products can't be added to other bundles, so they don't appear in the picker.
The group card lists Optional products and Fixed products separately. Select a product to change its label, quantity, price or whether it's optional. See Bundle products.
A group can hold fixed products, optional products, or both. On the storefront, fixed products in a group with optional products are listed under an Includes heading.
Group settings
Open the group's menu and select Settings to edit these.
Title
What customers see above the group's products. A question or instruction works well, such as "Choose your coffee" or "Pick 3 packs".
Minimum selections
The fewest optional products the customer must choose from this group. Set it to 0 to make the group optional, so customers can add the bundle without choosing anything here.
New groups have a minimum of 1. Nested groups start at 0.
Maximum selections
The most optional products the customer can choose from this group. Leave it empty to allow any number up to the total number of optional products in the group.
If you remove products, BundleM8 lowers the minimum and maximum so they're never more than the number of optional products left.
Parent group
Links the group to another group in the bundle, making it a nested group. Choose None to keep it at the top level.
Only show when this product is selected
Shown for nested groups whose parent is a product group with optional products. Choose one of the parent group's optional products to show this group only when the customer selects that product. Leave it on Any product to show the group whenever the customer selects anything in the parent group.
How selections appear on the storefront
The group's minimum and maximum decide how its products are shown and checked:
| Settings | Storefront form | Rule checked when adding to cart |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum 1, maximum 1 | Radio buttons | The customer must choose exactly one product |
| Minimum 0, maximum 1 | Radio buttons with a No selection option, selected by default | Optional, at most one product |
| Maximum more than 1 | Checkboxes | Between the minimum and maximum |
| Minimum and maximum the same, such as 3 and 3 | Checkboxes | Exactly that many |
| Fixed products only | Ticked checkboxes that can't be changed | None |
If a selection breaks a rule when the customer selects Add to cart, the group shows a message and the bundle isn't added. For example, "You must select more options from this group." To show the rules before customers make a mistake, turn on Show selection hints on the Bundle Selection block.
Nested groups
A nested group sits under a parent group and stays hidden until the customer makes a choice in the parent. This lets you build step-by-step bundles that don't show every option at once.
There are three common reasons to nest a group:
- A natural order. Each group appears once the customer has made a choice in the one before it, guiding them through the bundle one step at a time.
- Options that depend on a choice. Extras that only make sense with something in the parent group. For example, a "Choose your grinder burrs" group that only appears when the customer chooses a grinder. Use Only show when this product is selected for this.
- Branches of a condition group. Groups nested under a condition group appear when the customer chooses the matching branch.
When the customer clears their choice in the parent group, nested groups hide again and their selections are removed.
Nested groups and fixed products
If the parent group contains fixed products, it always counts as having a selection, so its nested groups are always shown.
Creating a nested group
Open the parent group's menu and select Add product group. To nest an existing group instead, open its Settings and choose a Parent group.
Viewing nested groups
Nested groups don't appear at the top level of the editor. Select the x nested groups label on the parent group's card to open the Expanded group editor, which shows the parent group and its nested groups. Select Go back to return. You can also see the whole structure in Tree view.
Duplicate a group
Open the group's menu and select Duplicate. This copies the group, its settings and its products into a new group. Nested groups inside the original aren't copied.
Reorder groups and products
Groups appear on the storefront in the order they're shown in the editor. New groups are added to the end. To reorder groups, drag a group by the handle next to its title.
Products can be reordered within a group the same way. Fixed products are always listed after optional products on the storefront.
Delete a group
Open the group's menu and select Delete, then confirm. This removes the group, its products and its nested groups.
Restore a deleted group
Until you save, deleted groups are listed under Recently deleted groups. Select Restore to bring a group back with all of its settings and products.
Restoring a group doesn't restore its nested groups. Restore each nested group separately. A restored nested group goes back under its parent, as long as the parent is still in the bundle.
